Technical Advisory Board

NYC ACRE Technical Advisory Board includes experienced technology and finance leaders.

Members of the Technical Advisory Board will secure laboratory space where appropriate, prototype testing, student and post doctoral candidates, and guidance regarding admissions of NYC ACRE tenants.

George Bugliarello



George Buglirello, President Emeritus (having served as president from 1973 to 1994), University Professor and former chancellor of Polytechnic Institute of NYU is an engineer and educator with a broad background ranging from fluid mechanics to computer languages, the environment, bio-medical engineering and science policy.
Dr. Bugliarello is now serving his second four-year term as Foreign Secretary of the National Academy of Engineering, of which he has been a member since 1987. He is a lifetime National Associate of The National Academies and currently serves as chair of the National Academy of Engineering Council's International Affairs Committee.

Francisco de Leon



Francisco de Leon currently he is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY. His research interests include the definition of powers under non-sinusoidal conditions, the transient and steady-state analyses of power systems, the thermal rating of cables and the calculation of electromagnetic fields applied to machine design and modeling. He received the B.Sc. and the M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (Mexico), in 1983 and 1986 respectively, and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto in 1992.

Klaus S. Lackner



Klaus Lackner is the Ewing Worzel Professor of Geophysics at Columbia University, where he is also the Director of the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy, the Chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, and a member of the Earth Institute faculty. Lackner's current research interests include carbon capture and sequestration, air capture, energy systems and scaling properties (including synthetic fuels and wind energy), energy and environmental policy, lifecycle analysis, and zero emission modeling for coal and cement plants.

Farshad Khorrami



Dr. Khorrami is currently a professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at Polytechnic University. His research interests include control systems with emphasis on nonlinear systems, large-scale systems and decentralized control, power system stability and control, smart grid, unmanned and robotic vehicles, adaptive control, and microprocessor based control and instrumentation. Prof. Khorrami has served as general chair and conference organizing committee member of several international conferences.

Richard Leigh



Richard Leigh is Director of Advocacy and Research at the Urban Green Council, the New York chapter of the US Green Building Council New York, where he works on building code development and education projects. He has been active in the field of energy efficient engineering and systems studies for over twenty years, holds a PhD in Physics and is a Professional Engineer in New York State and a LEED AP. He is also a Visiting Associate Professor of Physics at Pratt Institute.

Shivendra S. Panwar



Shivendra S. Panwar is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He has served as the Secretary of the Technical Affairs Council of the IEEE Communications Society. He is a co-editor of two books, Network Management and Control, Vol. II, and Multimedia Communications and Video Coding, both published by Plenum. He has also co-authored TCP/IP Essentials: A Lab based Approach, published by the Cambridge University Press. He was awarded, along with Shiwen Mao, Shunan Lin and Yao Wang, the IEEE Communication Society's Leonard G. Abraham Prize in the Field of Communication Systems for 2004.

Karin Ezbiansky Pavese



Karin Ezbiansky Pavese, PhD is currently the Vice President of Innovation and Sustainability at the New York Academy of Sciences. In her current position she manages the Academy's efforts to promote innovation and economic development, and has played a key role in collaborations with Mexico City and New York State. Dr. Pavese is currently a member of the New York University Science Advisory Board, chairs the Grassroots Committee for the Materials Research Society's Government Affairs and most recently, has been elected to a Director-at-Large position of the American Chemical Society's New York Section.
